The whole point of this site is a joke about a fact nobody knows about you. It should not then store that fact. Here is the complete list, including the parts that are less flattering than “we never see it”.
What stays in your browser
- Your birthdate. The nine-months-back calculation, the ±2-week search and the curation all run in this tab. We do not have a database, so there is nowhere for it to be stored.
- The lookup fetches from Wikipedia directly from your browser. The date never passes through us — but note that the request pattern itself tells Wikipedia the month and day you were conceived, shifted nine months from your birthday. There is no year in it, so it cannot be reversed into your birthday.
- To show the precomputed history for your year, the page also loads
/preshow/1983.jsonfrom our own static host. That request reveals the year (not the month or day) to Cloudflare. If you open a shared?d=link, the full date is in the URL — so it can appear in browser history and in the link itself. Those links are optional; typing the date never puts it in a URL.
The one exception, stated plainly
- When you press Share card or Download card, the conception date, the event text and the chaos score are sent to preshow.date/api/og — our own server, the one that draws the picture. Your birthdate is not sent. It is not forwarded to anyone.
- That server runs on Cloudflare Workers with request logging enabled, so the address of that request — including the date — can end up in Cloudflare’s logs. It is used to render your card and for nothing else. We decided the convenience of a generated image was worth it, and we would rather tell you than let you assume otherwise.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no login of any kind.
- No cookies, and nothing that identifies you.
- No analytics. Not because we are being coy — there is genuinely no analytics script on this site right now.
- No server-side database, queue or cache of birthdates. The only storage on this site is Cloudflare’s static asset cache, which holds the HTML and the page itself.
- Nothing is written to
localStorage, sessionStorageor a cookie. Reloading the page starts from an empty form.
Links you click
- Sharing to X, WhatsApp or your clipboard hands your own words to those services. Event text links go to Wikipedia. If the merch drop is live, its link goes to our print partner and includes the event name and conception date.
This site is open source, so you can read the part that handles your date instead of trusting this page. It is a joke about a party. Nothing about it needs your identity.
